CSV becomes clear when people do it once

Instead of training people with long presentations, give them one hands-on exercise that forces the CSV logic: intended use, risk, controls, evidence.

The exercise

Background reading on this site: Validation 101: Critical Data vs Critical Functions, the Simplest Scoping Tool, The “Good Documentation Practice” Rules for Digital Evidence.

Step 1: Pick one system and write intended use in one paragraph.

Step 2: Identify three critical functions and three critical data elements.

Step 3: List five failure modes that could impact those items.

Step 4: Map each failure mode to one control and one verification method.

Step 5: Create a mini evidence index: where each proof artifact would live.

Outcome

In 30 minutes, trainees stop seeing CSV as paperwork and start seeing it as structured reasoning. That is the skill that scales across tools and projects.

How this looks with an agentic layer

The fundamentals above do not change when validation is automated - they get enforced earlier. On a layer like Qualitum, intended use, risk and evidence are structured inputs rather than documents someone remembers to write: agents draft against them, maintain the traceability, and hand the result to a named human for approval.

  • Intended use and critical data are captured once and reused across the lifecycle
  • Evidence is generated with its traceability attached, not reconstructed for the audit
  • The approval - and the accountability - stays with your named reviewer

Editor’s note

Evaluating an agentic platform? Put it on the same grid as the incumbents - and make it produce one real executed protocol.
